Neil Armitage

My path to database infrastructure runs deep: over three decades as a MySQL and Oracle DBA, including years at Continuent evaluating and deploying early Galera/Percona XtraDB Cluster implementations across multi-cloud environments, followed by roles spanning Skyscanner, VMware, and several DevOps leadership positions. I have spent my career on the unglamorous but essential work of keeping production data infrastructure alive — and have the scar tissue from restores that didn’t go to plan to prove it.

Statefulops is where I write up the things I wish were written down when I was figuring them out, and where I help teams who need their databases and stateful workloads to be fast, reliable and easy to operate.

How I work #

  • Practical over theoretical. Recommendations you can act on, prioritised by impact.
  • Hands-on. I’m happy to dig into query plans, configs and dashboards alongside your team.
  • Knowledge transfer. The goal is to leave your team more capable, not dependent on me.
